"There Was Still Something There..."
Two decades after first coming together as teenagers, Survivors of The Kraken have returned with a vengeance. With their debut album Amid Life Crises, recorded at subModern Audio in Providence, RI, the trio channels years of experience, reinvention, and persistence into a raw, unfiltered collection of rock songs. It’s not just a record, it’s the sound of three lifelong friends reconnecting in the studio and capturing the magic of playing music the way it used to be made: live, loud, and unapologetically human.
The trio - Allan, Brian, and Justin - first cut their teeth in the Southern New England music scene of the early 2000s. Known for melodies that stood apart from their pop-punk contemporaries, they shared stages with national acts like MUST and regional favorites such as Monty Are I, all while honing the tight, dynamic musicianship that would eventually become their signature. But as venues shuttered in the aftermath of a massive fire at The Station nightclub and life pulled them in different directions, the band drifted apart. Justin left Rhode Island to pursue teaching while keeping a foothold in the singer-songwriter scene, while Allan and Brian anchored the Candice Brooks Band for years.
Two decades later, SOTK is not only back together, they’re thriving. In 2024, they earned a nomination for a New England Music Award. Their music now spins on over 70 terrestrial radio stations across the U.S., and Amid Life Crises broke into the AMA Top 200, peaking at #186 in January 2025. Along the way, they’ve graced stages from Boston Greenfest and PVD Fest to The Hard Rock Café (Boston), sharing bills with artists like Morris Day and The Time, Kyodie, Blue Dream, Senior Discount, and many more.

Amid Life Crises is the culmination of ten songs written over a year and a half, recorded the way albums used to be made: live, to tape, without a computer in sight. Working with producer Andy Davis at his 24-track analog studio, the band built the record from the ground up, writing together in the room, chasing spontaneous energy rather than polishing every detail into oblivion. Recorded on 2” tape and mixed down to 1/4”, the album embraces the human imperfections that make music feel alive. For Survivors of The Kraken, this debut is more than a comeback; it’s proof that sometimes, the long road back leads to the truest version of the art you were always meant to make.
